Pakistan Idol Contestant Romaisa Tariq Says Show "Completely Changed My Life"

From Lahore Living Room to National Spotlight

Romaisa Tariq, a Lahore-based contestant who has reached the Top 16 of Pakistan Idol, says the popular singing competition has fundamentally transformed her life. The young singer revealed that she now receives recognition everywhere she goes, marking a dramatic shift from her previous anonymity.

Viral Performance Catapults Singer to Fame

Romaisa’s rendition of the folk classic “Laung Gawacha” during her Pakistan Idol performance went viral across social media platforms, propelling her to nationwide popularity almost overnight. She discovered her newfound fame while dining out with friends, learning that her performance had taken the internet by storm.

Self-Taught Talent Defies Traditional Boundaries

Despite her remarkable vocal abilities, Romaisa has received no formal music training. Her musical journey began when her sister encouraged her to continue singing after hearing her natural talent. The Business graduate from the University of London practices guitar in her spare time and has developed her skills through dedication rather than formal education.

Breaking Cultural Barriers with Family Support

Coming from a Pashtun household where singing is traditionally discouraged, Romaisa’s musical ambitions faced cultural hurdles. However, her mother firmly supported her daughter’s dreams, stating she would “never allow anything to stand in the way of my daughter’s dreams,” demonstrating the family’s commitment to her artistic aspirations.

Supportive Environment and Future Prospects

Romaisa praised the backstage atmosphere at Pakistan Idol, noting that all contestants support one another in the friendly competition environment. As she prepares for the upcoming rounds, she has enlisted a long list of friends to help with voting and says she feels fully prepared for the tough competition ahead.

The aspiring singer also maintains a successful presence as a social media influencer, enjoying creating videos with friends and dining out when not focused on her musical career. The next episode of Pakistan Idol airs today at 8 pm on Geo TV, where Romaisa will continue her journey in the competition that has dramatically altered her life’s trajectory.
