ISLAMABAD — Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has said his party wants negotiations with the government to succeed, but the two sides have yet to agree on when the next round of talks will be held.
Speaking to the media after a deadlock emerged in the talks, Gohar said the party’s long march would proceed according to schedule, describing it as the party’s right.
Warning Against Measures Targeting Provincial Rights
The PTI chairman cautioned that no steps should be taken under the pretext of the long march that could sow hatred, division or tension among the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, or undermine the province’s mandate, autonomy and powers.
He said there was no room for any measure against provincial rights or the public mandate, adding that such actions would also be contrary to the spirit of the 18th Amendment.
Gohar further stated that the response to the long march should not be the imposition of an emergency or governor’s rule.
Next Round of Talks Still Unscheduled
According to the PTI chairman, it has still not been decided when the next meeting between the government and PTI delegations will take place, leaving the future of the negotiation process uncertain.
Government Side Claims Partial Consensus
Meanwhile, Federal Minister Talal Chaudhry claimed that consensus had been reached on several matters during the negotiations, but alleged that the draft agreement was repeatedly changed on the instructions of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa leadership.
He further alleged that the provincial government was not ready to implement the National Action Plan, which he said was the reason the negotiations could not move forward.
- PTI insists the long march will go ahead as scheduled.
- Gohar rejects emergency or governor’s rule as a response to the march.
- The next round of government-PTI talks remains unscheduled.
