Adviser to PM Says Focus Is on National Betterment for Now
Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs Senator Rana Sanaullah stated on Thursday that individuals who caused damage to Pakistan in the past could face accountability when the time is right.
“Those who caused harm to the country in the past may face their time of accountability, but for now, the focus should be on working for the betterment of the country,” Sanaullah said during an appearance on Geo News’ morning show Geo Pakistan.
Comments Follow Nawaz Sharif’s Remarks
Sanaullah’s statement came shortly after Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif addressed newly elected parliamentarians in Lahore, declaring that “lies, abuse, indecency, immorality, and chaos” had been defeated in recent by-elections.
The former prime minister asserted that not only Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, but also “those who brought him to power” shared responsibility for bringing the country’s economy and diplomacy “to the brink of collapse.”
Haripur Victory and Economic Critique
Sanaullah expressed both “joy and surprise” over the PML-N’s by-election victory in Haripur, noting that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister had been “actively campaigning in the constituency and issuing threats.”
The senator criticized the previous government’s economic management, stating that inflation had surged from 3% in 2017 to 40% within four years. He attributed this economic devastation to what he termed the “launch of the Imran Khan project.”
Government Priorities and Constraints
Sanaullah acknowledged the government’s intention to provide relief to citizens but cited constraints imposed by International Monetary Fund (IMF) conditions.
“Once the IMF programme is completed, we will be able to give relief to the people,” he remarked, emphasizing that the government’s foremost priority is national progress and improving citizens’ quality of life.
The PML-N leader cautioned that “abuse, false cases and politics of hatred” would yield no positive outcomes, reinforcing his call for focused efforts toward national betterment.
