Starting January 1, 2026, all drivers in Spain, whether local or foreign, will be required to carry a gyrofire device in their vehicles. This information, obtained by *Here Bayern Begur* (formerly *France Bleu*), comes directly from Spain’s road safety authorities. The gyrofire, known as V16, will replace the traditional warning triangle and will be magnetic, allowing it to be placed on the vehicle’s roof or driver’s door. This eliminates the need for drivers to exit their vehicles and place a triangle 50 to 100 meters away during emergencies.
According to Spain’s General Directorate of Traffic, the move aims to “advance road safety and reduce accidents.” The gyrofire also features geolocation capabilities, enabling rescue teams to pinpoint the exact location of an incident. On highways, the system will alert other drivers through information boards. Failure to carry the device could result in fines of up to €200.
The new policy is designed to enhance driver safety and minimize risks during accidents. The use of gyrofires is expected to not only protect drivers but also streamline and improve the efficiency of rescue operations. Spain’s government views this initiative as a significant step forward in improving road safety standards.
This regulation reflects Spain’s commitment to adopting innovative solutions to address road safety challenges, ensuring a safer driving experience for all.
