A district court in Islamabad has ordered a 14-day judicial remand for the suspect accused of attempting to kidnap social media influencer Samiya Hijab. The individual, who was arrested earlier this month, will be held at Adiala Jail as the investigation continues.
The suspect was taken into custody on September 2 after Hijab filed a complaint with the Shalimar Police Station. The charges include assault, attempted kidnapping, robbery, defamation, and harassment under various sections of the Pakistan Penal Code.
Police had requested an additional five-day physical remand for further questioning, but Judicial Magistrate Yasin Mahmood Chuahdry denied the appeal and instead granted a 14-day judicial remand.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), the influencer stated that the suspect had been stalking her for several days. The situation escalated when he allegedly tried to forcibly take her from her home while she was returning gifts he had given her. Hijab cited CCTV footage as evidence supporting her claims.
The case has drawn public attention as part of broader discussions around the safety of women, particularly public figures, in Pakistan.
