The victim promptly reported the theft to his bank, but by then, the thieves had already made a purchase: €52.50 spent at a local tobacco shop.

The shopkeeper revealed that the thieves had not only spent €52.50 but had also bought a €5 scratch-off ticket for the lottery game “Cash.” According to the shopkeeper, the ticket turned out to be a jackpot winner, netting the thieves the maximum prize of €500,000.
However, the winning ticket has since vanished, and its existence remains unverified. La Française des Jeux (FDJ), the French national lottery operator, confirmed that no claim for the €500,000 prize has been filed. A spokesperson stated, “We have no formal proof that this winning ticket exists, as it was never scanned in an FDJ terminal. If it had been, the winner would have been announced and required to come forward.”
