In a devastating road accident near Qazi Ahmed, located in the Shaheed Benazirabad district of Sindh, five individuals lost their lives and ten others sustained injuries in a collision involving a van and a trailer. The tragic incident occurred on Saturday, according to local police authorities.
Station House Officer (SHO) Waseem Mirza confirmed that the accident happened on Amri Road when a van, en route to the shrine of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar, first collided with a donkey cart and subsequently crashed into an oncoming trailer.
Following the collision, rescue teams and police promptly arrived at the scene, transporting two bodies and several injured individuals to the Qazi Ahmed Tehsil Hospital. Due to the severity of their injuries, some victims were moved to the Peoples University of Medical and Health Sciences for Women in Nawabshah, where three more succumbed to their injuries.
Fatal accidents on Pakistan’s highways are often attributed to factors such as excessive speeding, dangerous overtaking, and violations of traffic regulations. A report from the previous year highlighted that 97 traffic accidents on the incomplete segment of the Indus Highway between Jamshoro and Sehwan resulted in the deaths of 115 people and left 317 injured.
Just a day prior to this incident, another road tragedy unfolded on the Indus Highway near Sun Town, where a sport utility vehicle (SUV) collided with a car traveling in the wrong direction, resulting in the deaths of five individuals and injuries to six others.
These incidents underscore the dire traffic conditions in Pakistan, particularly on highways where the risk of accidents is significantly heightened. Authorities are urged to focus more on these perilous routes to ensure the protection of human lives.
