The main suspect in the arson attack on Limoges city hall during the October 17 mobilization will appeal his indictment and placement in pre-trial detention, his lawyer announced Saturday evening.
Henri Braun, counsel for the 34-year-old suspect, told ICI Limousin that the appeal will be filed on Monday. The lawyer also said he will request that the judicial investigation be relocated, citing breaches of the presumption of innocence and a climate he described as “not calm enough.”
Two Suspects Indicted and Detained
The two suspects brought before magistrates Friday in the judicial investigation opened after the city hall fire were indicted and placed in pre-trial detention, the prosecutor’s office announced Saturday.
- The younger suspect was arrested Tuesday in Haute-Vienne. Known to police and intelligence services, he is flagged as a security risk (fiche S) due to his membership in the far-left movement.
- The second, older suspect was arrested Thursday in the Creuse department. Described as an activist close to the far-left movement, he is not flagged as a security risk.
The fire broke out at the city hall during the October 17 mobilization. Both men now face formal investigation, with the principal suspect contesting the decisions through his lawyer and seeking to move the proceedings to another jurisdiction.
