The mayor of La Verrière has offered a measure of relief amid the fallout from Friday’s deadly shooting in the Yvelines, confirming that the 12-year-old girl wounded in the attack is recovering, while one of two other victims remains in critical condition.
Mayor Nicolas Dainville said Sunday on franceinfo that he had spoken by telephone with the child’s mother. The girl, who was struck by “eight bullets,” is “doing better,” he said.
Two Men Also Wounded in La Verrière
Dainville recalled that two other people were hit in his commune, both men. “One is doing better and the other is still in a critical condition,” he said.
Three people in total were wounded in La Verrière during the attack, including the young girl. A man opened fire in the street in Trappes and La Verrière on Friday, leaving one person dead and five injured.
Racist Motive ‘Never in Doubt’
For the mayor of La Verrière, the racist character of the attack “has never been in any doubt: three Black people were targeted in La Verrière.”
Psychological Support Cell Opened
A psychological support unit has been set up since the attack. It received “around 15 people on the first day and about ten on the second,” the mayor said.
The 39-year-old man suspected of opening fire in the street on Friday has been taken into police custody, along with four other people, including his parents. The national anti-terrorism prosecutor’s office (Pnat) is leading the investigation.
