A dramatic incident unfolded in Paris’s city council as opposition member Nelly Garnier accused the city’s administration of partial responsibility for the death of a young boy named Elias. Garnier argued that the negligence of the left-leaning city leadership created conditions that led to the tragic event.
Elias, a 14-year-old, was killed three weeks ago in Paris by two other teenagers. Addressing the council, Garnier claimed that the current leadership’s disregard for reality fostered an environment where such a tragedy could occur.
The accusations sparked a tumultuous response within the council. Mayor Anne Hidalgo denounced Garnier’s remarks as “unacceptable” and demanded an apology, asserting that such statements have no place in the council and promising legal action against them. The controversy intensified as Rémi Féraud, leader of the Socialist group, condemned the statements as extremely dangerous, threatening legal proceedings if they were not retracted.
