In a significant diplomatic meeting, Pakistan and China have pledged to intensify their “all-weather strategic cooperative partnership” as part of ongoing efforts to fortify bilateral ties. This affirmation came during discussions between Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, and Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit.
Both nations, well-known for their robust partnership that spans sectors such as trade, infrastructure, and defense, emphasized the unique and unparalleled nature of their relationship. The leaders agreed to enhance cooperation in light of current regional and global challenges.
Prime Minister Sharif highlighted the importance of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), emphasizing its role as a flagship project of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to efficiently implementing the next phase of CPEC, which includes five new corridors set to drive economic growth.
President Xi commended Pakistan’s dedication to the initiative and reiterated China’s continued support for Pakistan’s economic and infrastructural development. The Chinese leader also committed to deepening cooperation with Pakistan as they embark on the second phase of CPEC, focusing on key sectors vital for Pakistan’s development.
Expressing solidarity, PM Sharif extended a cordial invitation to President Xi for an official visit to Pakistan next year, coinciding with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations. The meeting underscored both countries’ appreciation for each other’s accomplishments, with Sharif praising Xi’s leadership, which he described as transformational for China.
The discussion also highlighted shared goals in global governance, development, security, and cultural initiatives. These efforts aim to contribute to regional and global peace, stability, and prosperity while upholding mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity.
As part of the celebratory agenda, extensive plans are being laid to mark 75 years of Pakistan-China friendship, emphasizing cooperation that aligns with both nations’ strategic interests and aspirations for future progress.
