A fresh spell of monsoon weather is expected to bring heavy rainfall and strong winds to Karachi and other parts of Sindh over the coming days, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department. The department issued a severe weather warning on Sunday, highlighting the risk of urban flooding and gusty conditions as a deep depression moves into southeastern Sindh from India within the next 24 hours.

PMD spokesperson Anjum Nazeer Zaigham confirmed that thunderstorms and heavy rainfall are likely to begin on Monday. The weather system, which has intensified over southwest Rajasthan and Gujarat, is expected to bring widespread rain and strong winds across the region until at least September 10.

Karachi residents experienced overcast and humid conditions throughout Sunday, with light rain reported in some suburban areas. The city recorded a high of 32.6 degrees Celsius with 75 percent humidity, adding to the discomfort ahead of the anticipated downpour.

In response to the forecast, President Asif Ali Zardari has called on provincial and municipal authorities to remain on high alert. He emphasized the need for advance preparations and close monitoring of water levels in Hub Dam and other reservoirs to protect local communities.

The PMD advisory specifically warned of “heavy to very heavy” rainfall in Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Sujawal, Dadu, and Mirpurkhas. Residents are advised to stay updated on weather developments and take necessary precautions.
