Two young men have been arrested in Bahawalnagar on charges of sexually assaulting and robbing a transgender woman in Maroot. The incident occurred on September 9, when the suspects arrived at the victim’s residence under the pretense of hiring her for a wedding performance.
According to police reports, one of the men assaulted the victim while the other stood guard. After neighbors responded to her cries for help, the pair allegedly stole her wallet, personal documents, and mobile phone before fleeing the scene. Law enforcement officials confirmed that both suspects, residents of Chak 314-HR, were taken into custody following the filing of a formal complaint.
In a separate case, a man and his two cousins were charged with murder following a fatal shooting in Chishtian. The incident, which took place on September 6, stemmed from an ongoing domestic dispute. The primary suspect, Ali Waqas, is accused of shooting his older brother, Zaffar Iqbal, during an argument. Police stated that Waqas has been arrested, while efforts to apprehend the other two individuals involved are ongoing.
These incidents highlight ongoing concerns about violence against marginalized communities and within domestic settings in the region.
