Injury Casts Shadow Over Must-Win Match for Pakistan
Pakistan all-rounder Hussain Talat sustained a shoulder injury during the second One-Day International against Bangladesh at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Friday. The incident occurred during a high-stakes match for the touring side, who were trailing 1-0 in the three-match series.
How the Injury Happened
The injury took place in the sixth over of Bangladesh’s innings. Talat, fielding at deep cover, sprinted to stop a backfoot punch by Litton Das. In his effort to prevent a boundary, the 30-year-old crashed into the advertising hoardings, leading to immediate and visible discomfort.
He received urgent medical attention on the field before being stretchered off and subsequently substituted from the match.
PCB Confirms Hospital Evaluation
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) issued a statement confirming the injury. “Pakistan all-rounder Hussain Talat sustained a shoulder injury while fielding,” the board said. “Following the initial assessment, he has been taken to a hospital for a detailed examination.”
The PCB added that the full nature and extent of the injury would be determined after further medical evaluation by doctors.
Setback for Pakistan in Series Decider Context
The potential loss of Talat represents a significant setback for Pakistan in a must-win fixture. Having lost the first ODI, Pakistan needed a victory in Mirpur to keep the series alive.
Earlier in the day, Pakistan had posted a competitive total of 274 all out, powered by half-centuries from Maaz Sadaqat (75 off 46 balls) and Salman Ali Agha (64 off 62 balls). Bangladesh’s chase was interrupted at 27/3 by a hailstorm, with the home side requiring 248 more runs from 261 deliveries at the time of the stoppage.
The injury to a key player adds a layer of complexity to Pakistan’s campaign as they await official medical reports on Talat’s condition.
