Pakistan has formally offered to mediate in the rapidly intensifying conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran, as regional tensions reach a new peak with widespread missile strikes and a soaring death toll.
Minister Announces Readiness to Intervene
Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, in an interview with Al-Jazeera, emphasized Islamabad’s “pivotal role as a regional partner” and its deep commitment to diplomatic stability. He expressed Pakistan’s sincere desire to participate in de-escalating the situation and prevent further regional instability.
“Pakistan is involved in talking with various partners,” Tarar stated, adding that the country’s longstanding ties in the region position it to play a constructive mediation role.
Conflict Reaches Critical Point
The offer comes as the US-Israeli military campaign against Iran shows no signs of abating. The conflict escalated dramatically following Israel’s assassination of senior Iranian officials, including security chief Ali Larijani and Basij Commander Gholamreza Soleimani.
In retaliation, Iran launched missiles carrying cluster warheads at Tel Aviv overnight, killing at least two people and bringing the Israeli death toll from the war to at least 14. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps stated it used advanced Khorramshahr 4 and Qadr missiles in the attack.
Regional Strikes and Diplomatic Moves
The conflict has spilled across the region. Gulf Arab states have reportedly faced over 2,000 missile and drone attacks targeting US assets, oil infrastructure, and civilian areas, with the United Arab Emirates being a primary focus.
In response to the crisis, Saudi Arabia announced it would host a consultative meeting of Arab and Islamic foreign ministers in Riyadh to discuss supporting regional security.
New Iranian Leadership Rejects Ceasefire
Meanwhile, Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has firmly rejected proposals for a ceasefire or tension reduction with the United States. Attending his first foreign-policy meeting since his appointment, Khamenei declared it was not “the right time for peace until the United States and Israel are brought to their knees.”
The US and Israel have stated that a primary goal of their attacks, which began over two weeks ago and resulted in the death of Iran’s previous supreme leader, is to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapons program.
With Pakistan positioning itself as a potential mediator and hostilities continuing unabated, the international community watches for any diplomatic opening that could curb the expanding war.
