KARACHI — Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Memon has accused the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) of placing Islamabad under an effective “siege” through its protest activities, and urged political parties across the spectrum to demonstrate responsibility.
Millions Spent on Containers, Says Memon
Speaking to the media in Karachi, Memon said the government had spent millions of rupees on the installation and subsequent removal of shipping containers deployed during the protests. He argued that political parties should act with restraint, noting that members of his own leadership had also been arrested in the past but, in his account, did not resort to similar measures.
His remarks reflect the broader political tension in the country, where opposition-led demonstrations have repeatedly disrupted daily life in the federal capital and drawn heavy security deployments.
Development Work in Karachi Highlighted
Turning to provincial affairs, the Sindh minister highlighted ongoing development work in Karachi, saying that construction on University Road was almost complete.
- The Meteorological Flyover has been inaugurated, with Memon praising the project team for completing the work at a rapid pace.
- Transportation difficulties faced by citizens on University Road have been addressed, according to the minister.
- Work on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project is progressing, with stations and related infrastructure being completed quickly.
Memon’s comments come as his party seeks to present its development record in Karachi, even as national politics remain dominated by friction between the government and PTI.
