A suspected suicide car bomb attack targeting a police checkpost in the Darazinda area of Dera Ismail Khan district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa martyred at least 13 people and injured several others, according to initial reports.
Rescue 1122 and police sources confirmed the blast, stating that an explosives-laden vehicle rammed into the Aman Mela Checkpost, triggering a powerful explosion. The ambulance transporting the injured and the bodies of the martyred was also targeted during the response effort.
Victims Include Police, Customs Officials and Civilians
According to sources, the 13 people martyred in the attack included:
- Six police personnel
- Two Customs officials
- Two women
- A two-year-old child
Several others, including police and Customs personnel, were injured in the assault and were shifted to hospitals for treatment.
CTD Registers Case With 14 Sections
A case has been registered in connection with the suicide attack on the checkpost. The First Information Report was lodged on the complaint of the Counter-Terrorism Department, with 14 sections included, covering murder, attempt to murder and terrorism.
According to the text of the FIR, Fitna al Khawarij rammed a vehicle loaded with explosives into the Aman Mela Checkpost. A local terrorist organisation claimed responsibility for the attack.
Chief Minister Visits Injured at DHQ Hospital
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi arrived in Dera Ismail Khan, where he was welcomed by former Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur. The Chief Minister visited those injured in the suicide attack at DHQ Hospital.
The attack underscores the persistent security challenges facing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where police and security checkposts have repeatedly been targeted by militant outfits in recent months.
