Salman Khan Demands Jail Terms for AI Deepfake Creators, Calls for Censorship

Salman Khan Demands Jail Terms for AI Deepfake Creators, Calls for Censorship

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has launched a scathing attack on the misuse of Artificial Intelligence, calling for jail terms for those who create malicious deepfake content and urging authorities to introduce strict censorship on social media platforms.

The actor raised the alarm during an episode of the reality show “Bigg Boss 20,” in a clip that has since circulated widely online, warning that the rapid advance of AI technology has reached frightening proportions.

‘AI Has Progressed So Much, It Is Very Scary’

Addressing the issue directly, Khan described the unauthorized use of AI to manipulate voices and images as a grave and escalating threat.

“Someone made an AI video, or did AI voice dubbing, it is wrong. AI has progressed so much, it is very scary. It is a very serious thing,” Khan is heard saying in the footage.

The actor stressed that manipulated content can be weaponized to distort a person’s words and damage reputations, turning innocent statements into tools of abuse.

Call for Legal Action and Platform Censorship

Khan argued that the problem extends beyond misinformation, pointing to a troubling distinction between audiences who are deceived by deepfakes and those who knowingly produce them.

“Now, people who don’t know it is AI-generated content might post Salman Khan was there. But those who know this reality and still created the video, what kind of people are they? So those kinds of people should be put behind bars,” he said.

The superstar did not stop at individual accountability, calling for systemic reform:

  • Strict legal measures, including imprisonment, for deliberate deepfake creators
  • The passage of dedicated legislation to govern AI-generated content
  • Formal censorship mechanisms for social media platforms

“There has to be a law needs to be passed, and there has to be censorship on social media,” Khan added.

Deepfakes Emerge as Growing Threat to Celebrities

Khan’s intervention comes amid mounting concern over the proliferation of AI-generated deepfake videos and images targeting public figures, with a steady stream of manipulated content surfacing across online platforms.

Several prominent Indian actors have already fallen victim to the phenomenon, including Rashmika Mandanna, Katrina Kaif, Ranveer Singh, and Alia Bhatt.

Mandanna was among the first to speak out, issuing a public statement in 2023 after a deepfake video featuring her face went viral. She described deepfake content as “extremely scary,” drawing support from fellow celebrities, including Amitabh Bachchan and Naga Chaitanya.

Khan’s remarks add one of Bollywood’s most influential voices to a widening debate over how governments and technology companies should regulate AI-generated media before it causes further harm.
