GILGIT — Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs, Gilgit-Baltistan and SAFRON Amir Muqam launched a scathing critique of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on Sunday, declaring that the province is effectively without governance as security conditions deteriorate, while simultaneously cautioning against the imposition of governor’s rule as a politically unfavorable option.
Federal Minister Says KP ‘Left Unattended’
Addressing a press conference alongside Zahid Khan and Samar Bilour, Muqam said the federal government has no desire to reach a point requiring extreme constitutional measures in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
“Governor’s rule is not politically a good decision,” Muqam stated, adding that the federal government does not want to resort to a last-resort option.
The minister alleged that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been left unattended while Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur pursues what he described as a “one-point agenda.”
Chief Minister Accused of Prioritizing Protests Over Governance
Muqam claimed the provincial situation is tense and that the chief minister has been busy participating in protests rather than addressing administrative responsibilities.
He said the situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is deteriorating daily, noting that the chief minister has spent the past two months traveling between Lahore and Sindh.
“Terrorism is taking place in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the province is burning,” Muqam said, describing residents as unable to move freely and forced to carry the bodies of their loved ones.
Call for Unity Against Terrorism
The federal minister stressed the need for national unity on the issue of terrorism, saying the challenges facing the province transcend political affiliations.
Muqam also leveled corruption allegations against the provincial government, claiming graft is at its peak in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and accusing the chief minister of failing to fulfill his responsibilities.
He described the province as currently lacking proper governance and urged the KP government to recognize the difficulties facing its citizens.
Political Tensions Escalate Between Federal and Provincial Governments
The remarks come amid heightened political and security tensions between the federal and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governments, with governor’s rule having been discussed as one of the constitutional options amid concerns over law and order and ongoing political confrontation.
The federal government’s stance appears to balance criticism of provincial governance with reluctance to invoke emergency constitutional powers, signaling continued political friction between Islamabad and Peshawar.
