Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar will not attend the 52nd session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which opens in Baghdad on Friday, according to an official cited by Dunya News.
Pakistan will instead be represented at the gathering by its Permanent Representative to the OIC in Jeddah, Fawad Sher. Officials said Dar’s busy schedule and other pressing engagements inside Pakistan prevented him from making the trip to the Iraqi capital.
Regional Tensions Dominate the Agenda
The Baghdad session convenes amid heightened tensions across the region, with regional peace and stability expected to top the agenda. Representatives of OIC member states are set to exchange views on key regional developments, review ongoing diplomatic efforts and explore avenues to ease tensions.
The meeting is also expected to serve as a platform for strengthening cooperation among member states and for addressing emerging challenges confronting the Muslim world.
Iranian, Regional Counterparts in Attendance
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has already arrived in Baghdad ahead of the session. Officials from Turkiye, Egypt and other Muslim-majority countries are also expected to take part in the deliberations.
The OIC Council of Foreign Ministers session is one of the bloc’s principal decision-making forums, bringing together top diplomats from across the Islamic world to coordinate policy on political and security issues.
