Pakistan’s Ansar Iqbal has qualified for the men’s long jump final at the Asian Games, producing a personal-best leap of 7.28 metres in the qualifying round to extend the country’s presence in the athletics competition.
The effort marked an improvement on his previous personal mark and secured his place among the qualifiers for Monday’s final, where he will compete against the continent’s leading jumpers for a place on the podium.
Volleyball Team Off to Winning Start
Pakistan’s volleyball campaign also began on a positive note, with the national side defeating Kazakhstan 3-1 in its opening match.
Pakistan controlled the early exchanges, taking the first two sets 25-16 and 25-22. Kazakhstan hit back in the third, claiming it 25-17 to keep the contest alive, but Pakistan reasserted themselves in the fourth set to close out a 25-20 win and seal the match 3-1.
The team returns to action on Monday against Uzbekistan as it looks to build on the opening victory.
Mixed Fortunes in Shooting
In shooting, Pakistan’s Rabia Kabir competed in the women’s 25-metre rapid-fire event, finishing 41st in a field of 44 shooters.
The results across athletics, volleyball and shooting form part of Pakistan’s multi-sport participation at the ongoing Asian Games.
Momentum Ahead of Monday’s Final
For Ansar Iqbal, qualification represents a notable milestone and offers momentum heading into the final. His personal-best performance in qualifying will be closely watched by Pakistani sports fans as he attempts to build on that display and improve the country’s standing in the competition.
