Minister Tarar Dismisses Rumors of Concessions
Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has categorically denied any negotiations or special arrangements with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), labeling such reports as baseless speculation. Speaking to media in London, Tarar stated that all talk of concessions for the Imran Khan-founded party was merely rumor-driven, firmly ruling out any political deal.
Health Concerns Labeled as “Sensationalized”
Addressing reports about former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s medical condition, Tarar asserted that the PTI founder’s eye problem had been exaggerated for political gain. “We had a responsibility to provide proper healthcare, and that was done. His health is fine now; the issue that existed has been resolved,” the minister stated. He emphasized that medical experts had examined Khan and briefed party leaders, urging the PTI to stop politicizing health matters.
Contradictory Claims from KP Chief Minister
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi immediately contradicted the minister’s statements, insisting the government had not met PTI’s demands. Speaking outside the KP House in Islamabad, Afridi clarified that their requests were straightforward:
- Access to Khan’s personal physician
- Permission for family visits
- Consultation with an eye specialist
- Treatment at Shifa International Hospital
“None of these demands was accepted,” Afridi stated, questioning what the government might be hiding by denying these basic rights.
Ongoing Protests and Political Standoff
The PTI-led sit-in entered its fifth day on Tuesday, with protesters continuing to demand proper medical access for Imran Khan. The demonstration, organized by PTI parliamentary figures and the opposition alliance Tehreek-e-Tahafuz-e-Ayin-e-Pakistan (TTAP), highlights sustained political tensions that show no signs of easing.
PM’s Austria Visit Highlighted
Tarar, who accompanied Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on a two-day official visit to Austria, highlighted the trip’s success in fostering bilateral relations. He noted investment opportunities in textiles, mines, and minerals, and mentioned that PM Shehbaz’s German-language speech in Vienna was warmly received by Austrian officials and the public alike.
The conflicting narratives between government officials and opposition leaders underscore the deepening political divide in Pakistan, with Khan’s health and legal status remaining central points of contention.
