KARACHI — Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has called on political leaders to refrain from politicizing the fight against terrorism, stating that the issue demands a unified and serious response. Speaking to party workers in Karachi on the 19th anniversary of the Karsaz tragedy, Bilawal emphasized that eliminating terrorism remains the country’s foremost priority, particularly in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where the threat continues to pose a significant challenge.
A Call for Unity and Serious Measures
Bilawal stressed that tackling terrorism requires effective and serious measures, and warned against allowing the issue to become a source of political controversy. He noted that members of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), led by Maulana Fazlur Rehman, have also lost their lives in terrorist attacks, expressing his expectation that the JUI-F chief would openly oppose terrorist groups.
“The fight against terrorism should not be turned into a political dispute,” Bilawal said, urging a clear and effective stance against the threat. He called on political leaders to focus on eliminating terrorism rather than making counterterrorism measures controversial.
Emergency Measures and Political Responsibility
Referring to the circumstances that led to the imposition of the emergency, the PPP chairman said the chief minister of one province had not been prepared to confront terrorists, leaving the authorities with little choice but to take the emergency measure. He expressed respect for Maulana Fazlur Rehman, stating that the JUI-F chief could play a constructive role in efforts to bring the emergency to an end.
Bilawal’s remarks come as Pakistan continues to grapple with security challenges, with the political leadership facing pressure to formulate a cohesive strategy to combat terrorism. His call for unity underscores the need for a collective approach to address the evolving threat landscape.
