ISLAMABAD – In a significant show of solidarity, Pakistan’s fractious business community has set aside its differences to form a unified platform aimed at pulling the nation back from the brink of economic instability. The call for collective action was spearheaded by United Business Group (UBG) Patron-in-Chief SM Tanveer, who declared that only joint efforts could navigate the country out of its current financial quagmire.
Speaking at a high-profile ceremony in the federal capital, Tanveer lauded the ongoing dedication of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir, crediting their combined efforts for steering the country towards development and much-needed economic stability. He emphasized that the synergy between the military and civilian leadership was a critical component of the recovery roadmap.
Power Price Relief Sparks Optimism
A major point of discussion was the recent reduction in electricity prices, a move Tanveer attributed to the vigorous advocacy of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI). He noted that the tariff relief has already injected a palpable sense of positivity throughout the industrial and commercial sectors, easing operational burdens that had previously crippled productivity.
However, the business magnate did not shy away from addressing systemic roadblocks. He warned that certain entrenched elements within the administrative machinery are actively creating obstacles that undermine progress. Identifying and surgically removing these impediments, he argued, is no longer optional but essential for survival.
A Call for Provincial Consensus
In a bid to craft a truly national recovery strategy, Tanveer issued a direct appeal to business representatives from all provinces. He urged them to shed their regional inhibitions and openly present their candid views and policy recommendations. The goal, he stated, is to forge a joint, actionable strategy that leverages the collective wisdom of Pakistan’s commercial sector to reinforce the national economy.
The gathering signals a potential turning point where the private sector is moving from mere criticism to active, structured collaboration with the state. By demanding a seat at the policymaking table, the business community aims to ensure that stabilization measures translate into tangible growth on the ground.
