RAWALPINDI – Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir visited Pakistan Ordnance Factories in Wah on Thursday, conducting a comprehensive review of the country’s largest defence industrial complex. The visit centred on evaluating production capabilities, export potential, and the facility’s expanding role in strengthening Pakistan’s defence industrial base.
Focus on Self-Reliance and Indigenous Development
During the visit, the army chief received detailed briefings on POF Wah’s operational scope and its contribution to national security through the indigenous development and manufacturing of a diverse range of military equipment. The briefings highlighted the complex’s growing capacity to reduce dependence on foreign suppliers.
Field Marshal Munir witnessed live tests and trials of locally designed and manufactured arms and ammunition. The demonstrations underscored POF Wah’s commitment to innovation and self-reliance, key pillars of Pakistan’s long-term defence production strategy.
Corporatisation and Industrial Expansion Underway
The army chief was also updated on the progress of the corporatisation process following the enactment of the Defence Industry Production and Research Authority ordinance. This legal framework is intended to modernise management structures and improve efficiency across defence manufacturing entities.
Officials briefed the Field Marshal on ongoing indigenisation and upgradation efforts, including the installation of two new industrial plants. Both plants are expected to commence production by the end of the current year, further expanding POF Wah’s manufacturing capacity.
Reinforcing Defence Sector Innovation
The visit reinforced the military leadership’s emphasis on advancing self-reliance, indigenous production, and technological innovation within Pakistan’s defence sector. POF Wah remains a central component of the country’s strategy to build a robust and sustainable defence industrial ecosystem.
