ISLAMABAD — Pakistan’s Federal Constitutional Court has scheduled hearings for two high-profile cases on October 15, including a bail and sentence-related plea filed on behalf of Bushra Bibi in the £190 million case and a petition challenging the appointment of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi.
Two-Member Bench to Hear Bushra Bibi’s Plea
Bushra Bibi’s case will come before a two-member bench comprising Justice Aminuddin Khan and Justice Ali Baqar Najafi. Her legal team approached the Federal Constitutional Court seeking suspension of her sentence in the £190 million case, with the application filed through her lawyer, Salman Safdar, following a decision by the High Court.
The move marks the latest stage in a legal battle that has drawn sustained national attention, as her counsel presses for relief against the sentence handed down in the corruption reference.
Petition Against KP Chief Minister’s Appointment
Separately, the court has fixed for hearing a petition challenging the appointment of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi. A bench headed by Chief Justice Aminuddin Khan will take up the matter on the same day.
Advocate Sher Afzal Marwat has challenged Afridi’s appointment as chief minister. The petition contends that a convicted person does not have the authority to nominate an individual for a public office.
