Former president of the Spanish Football Federation, Luis Rubiales, appeared in court in Madrid on Tuesday, where he claimed that he had sought permission to kiss Jennifer Hermoso during the 2023 Women’s World Cup ceremony. Rubiales testified that he had asked Hermoso if he could kiss her before the incident. In contrast, Hermoso has alleged that Rubiales did not have permission to kiss her. The case against Rubiales includes charges of sexual assault and coercion, which emerged in August 2023.
Prosecutors have requested a sentence of two years and six months in prison for Rubiales.
