Pacer Speaks Out on Squad Exclusion
Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf has publicly addressed his omission from the national squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup, stating there is “no need for him to feel disappointed” and emphasizing that the snub does not signal the end of his international career.
In a special interview from Australia, the 31-year-old pacer acknowledged the natural disappointment of missing a major tournament but reaffirmed his commitment to hard work and improvement. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) finalized its 15-member squad earlier this week, with Rauf and wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan notable absentees, while former captain Babar Azam retained his place.
Focus on Improvement, Not Setbacks
“Of course, there is disappointment as I was not picked in the T20 World Cup squad,” Rauf admitted. “But my career won’t end. I will keep working hard and focus more on my bowling.”
The Rawalpindi-born speedster said he has been continuously refining his skills and believes his performances have shown improvement since the Asia Cup. He extended his best wishes to the national team for the World Cup, expressing hope for a strong campaign.
Addressing Criticism and Challenges
Rauf also touched on the topic of public criticism, drawing a clear line between constructive feedback and personal abuse. He stressed that players share in the nation’s anguish after defeats.
“When Pakistan lose, players feel the pain as well,” he said. “Criticism is fine, but disrespect is not.” Reflecting on his role, Rauf highlighted the difficulty of bowling in the death overs, calling it “one of the toughest roles in modern cricket.”
He also praised the Pakistan Super League (PSL), set for its 11th edition in March, noting its growth into a major global league that will continue to attract top overseas talent.
