A startup company in the aviation industry, Chaise Longue, has announced its efforts in exploring modern technology by working on the concept of double-decker seating along with an airbus. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in this design journey, which initially began as a project at a college and is now on the verge of becoming a reality. Alejandro Nunez Venté, the CEO of Chaise Longue, expressed gratitude for understanding the “real possibilities” of this new seating by Airbus. A representative from Airbus confirmed that Chaise Longue is examining the initial concepts for double-decker seating solutions for commercial aircraft. However, they refrained from providing additional comments on this initial phase.
Venté has designed the lower part of the seat in a way that provides more space for passengers. The fundamental idea behind this design is to remove the upper space of the cabin and provide double-decker seating. As a result, passengers will have the opportunity to choose between upper or lower seats. While the lower level may not seem as visually appealing, it will offer passengers the convenience of stretching their legs and utilizing extra space. Venté initially designed this concept for the economy cabin, following which they introduced a new version for business and first-class cabins last year. CNN Travel conducted an initial prototype test, concluding that while there may be some constraints on the lower level, the extra space could be beneficial for some passengers.
Venté mentioned that they cannot clarify which cabin design Chaise Longue will focus on in collaboration with Airbus, nor can they confirm how different or similar the new concepts will be from the previously displayed ones. Currently, there are no conceptual images or details available for this new design. Various reactions have emerged on social media regarding this design, with some individuals making jokes, while others praising it as a clever way to accommodate more passengers. Venté emphasizes that their aim is not to eliminate traditional aircraft seating but to envision a cabin where Chaise Longue’s seats coexist with traditional ones. They also believe that this concept could provide a new source of revenue for airlines, which is an additional benefit of this design. Venté acknowledged that every new innovation faces criticism, and the social media criticism of this design has not had a significant impact on progress. They hope for the reality of the double-decker seating with Airbus’s support, although it will take time for this process to materialize. “But with Airbus’ help, this is a real and achievable goal that will enhance the travel experience for passengers,” Venté stated.
