From Teen Influencer to Actress, a Reckoning with the Past
Paola Locatelli, a 21-year-old influencer turned actress, has publicly denounced the hypersexualization she experienced as a teenager on social media. Known for her roles in series and films, including the recently released “LOL 2,” Locatelli built her initial fame on platforms like Instagram and YouTube during her early adolescence.
“I Was a Baby”: Recalling a Predatory Online Environment
In a recent episode of her podcast “Sipsters,” Locatelli reflected on her early online presence, which she says led to premature exposure to older men. “I started posting photos on social media… being very active on Instagram, and that’s when I started developing a lot in the chest area,” she recounted. She was 14 or 15 at the time.
“I didn’t realize to what extent I was being hypersexualized by older men,” she continued, adding that she only fully grasped the phenomenon recently. She described receiving direct messages from high-profile individuals. “I was getting DMs from all the footballers… even actors. Honestly, if I said the names, I could end careers.”
Exploiting Vulnerability for Social Validation
Locatelli now views these interactions as unequivocally predatory. “I was 14, everyone knew it,” she stated. “Even if people said, ‘She looks older than her age,’ you could see I had a baby face.” Looking back, she said, “Now that I’m 21 and I look at myself at 14, I was a baby.”
She argued that the men contacting her were fully aware. “So ten years ago it was really… they were pedophiles, honestly,” she concluded. “When I think about times at 15 where I agreed to talk with guys, whereas today I would never, I tell myself they really took advantage of my vulnerability.”
The influencer also noted how photos in swimsuits or showing cleavage garnered more likes and shares, a dynamic she initially misinterpreted. “I fell into it,” she admitted. “I was like, ‘Ah, great, I’m the little Instagram baddie.’ In hindsight, it disgusts me, but I was young.”
A Broader Conversation on Social Media and Protection
Locatelli’s testimony adds to an ongoing public debate about the safety of minors on social media, the prevalence of online sexual violence, and the pressures of growing up in the digital spotlight. Her experience underscores the complex relationship between seeking validation online and becoming a target for exploitation.
