Two police personnel were martyred on Tuesday when unidentified motorcycle riders opened fire in the Badami Bagh area of Lahore, in what authorities believe was a targeted retaliatory attack linked to a prior police encounter.
According to police, Sub-Inspector Adeel and Constable Asad were killed in the firing. Both officers were posted at the Lari Adda Police Station.
Attack Linked to Previous Encounter
Police said Sub-Inspector Adeel had killed a suspected dangerous shooter, Faizan Butt, in a police encounter some time ago. Faizan Butt’s brother, Rehan Butt, is also wanted by police and is considered a dangerous shooter.
According to police, Rehan Butt allegedly targeted Sub-Inspector Adeel and Constable Asad in retaliation for his brother’s death.
Investigation and Forensic Response
Police and forensic teams collected evidence from the crime scene, while the bodies of the two martyred officers were shifted to a mortuary for post-mortem examinations.
The attack underscores the persistent security risks faced by law enforcement personnel in the region, particularly those involved in operations against high-profile criminal suspects.
Authorities have launched a search operation to apprehend the suspects involved in the shooting.
