ISLAMABAD — A suspect in the case involving the death by suicide of student Laiba Ijaz has died in hospital after being wounded during a firing incident involving a police team in the capital, according to police officials.
The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of Ramna police station while the suspect, identified as Muhammad Nauman, was being taken for the recovery of evidence, police said.
Armed Motorcyclists Opened Fire in Alleged Rescue Attempt
According to police, four armed men on motorcycles opened fire on the police team in an alleged attempt to free Nauman from custody. Officials said the suspect was being taken to a location for evidence recovery based on information he had provided during questioning when the attackers, who had allegedly concealed themselves along the route, launched indiscriminate gunfire at the police party.
During the exchange of fire, Nauman was wounded by bullets allegedly fired by his own accomplices. The police personnel escaped injury, with officials attributing their safety to bulletproof jackets and other precautionary measures in place at the time.
The injured suspect was immediately shifted to hospital for medical treatment but succumbed to his injuries, police said.

Nauman had been named as an accused in the case concerning Laiba Ijaz, a student who died by suicide within the jurisdiction of Ramna police station in Islamabad.
