Macron Admits "Big Mistakes," Laments Youth's Lost Innocence

A Candid Admission in New Delhi

French President Emmanuel Macron has conceded making “big mistakes” due to an “excess of confidence,” particularly in his public speeches. The remarks came during an interview with Brut India on Wednesday evening, conducted on the sidelines of an official visit to New Delhi.

“Every time I have been too confident in myself, I have made mistakes, big mistakes,” Macron stated. When pressed for examples, he pointed to his oratory. “When you consider that you can say everything, sometimes it is misunderstood and afterwards you are so upset,” he explained. “You have an excess of confidence when you are less sensitive to the way it will be perceived by others.”

Aspirations and Unlearned Skills

Asked what he would aspire to if he were 25 today, the French leader said he would try to “develop skills in art and creation,” to “do something unique,” and to “express [his] identity in dialogue with others.”

He also revealed a longstanding personal goal. “For years, I have wanted to learn data science. I have not started yet,” Macron added, referencing the field that uses scientific methods and algorithms to analyze large volumes of data.

Concern for a Pressured Generation

President Macron also expressed regret over what he described as a “lack of innocence” in the younger generation. “They are so under pressure because of climate change, the collapse of biodiversity, wars, the lack of cooperation, technological transformations,” he said, outlining the burdens facing youth today.

On the Unpredictability of Love

In a more personal segment, when asked to summarize his “love story in 60 seconds,” Macron offered a philosophical take. “Love is something unexpected, which is not written and which must just be lived with intensity,” he said.

“It is the most important thing you experience in your life and it is impossible to compare to all the others because it is yours. And it cannot be inspired by any other,” he concluded.
