A large mountain slide in the Savoie region of France has caused disruptions to access to its stations following its collapse earlier in the week. The incident occurred near the town of Aigueblanche on National Road 90, a key highway leading to the stations of Tarentaise. Local authorities have warned that reaching stations such as Les Trois Vallées, Tignes, Val d’Isère, La Plagne, Les Arcs, and La Rosière is currently very difficult.
According to reports, the slide occurred near the Pontserrand pass in the direction of Moutiers from Albertville at the end of the morning. In a photo, two large rock fragments can be seen on the road, with at least one vehicle having been involved in the accident. Initially, traffic was halted, but it was later restored in both directions in the afternoon. However, the traffic situation remains severe, with RD 1090 closed in both directions.
The Savoie department has cautioned drivers not to rely on their GPS devices as “secondary roads do not lead to the stations of Tarentaise.” Authorities have emphasized that people should postpone their travel and stay only on main roads. As a result of the incident, one person was injured and taken to the hospital. Teams from the French Red Cross have been deployed to assist stranded travelers in the area, providing them with food and other essentials. Travelers who have not yet reached Savoie have been advised to halt their journey and find a place to stay on their route.
This incident has proven to be a major obstacle for enthusiasts of skiing in this winter season, especially at a time when many stations are at their peak season. Officials have pledged to monitor the situation closely and provide timely updates to the public.
