Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has declared that Pakistan and China are moving their longstanding friendship into a new era defined by data, technology, and innovation. Speaking at the International Big Data Expo in Beijing, she extended a direct invitation to Chinese investors to explore opportunities in Punjab’s rapidly evolving digital landscape.
The chief minister described the Pakistan-China relationship as time-tested and rooted in mutual respect. She emphasized that Punjab’s provincial government is actively promoting digital transformation with the goal of developing the region into a hub for modern technology and the digital economy.
Youth Skills and AI Integration Take Center Stage
Maryam Nawaz highlighted that Punjab’s youth are being equipped with modern technological education and skills to meet the demands of a changing global economy. She noted that the digital revolution is reshaping economies worldwide and holds significant potential to generate new employment opportunities.
Artificial intelligence and big data, she said, will play a critical role in future development. The provincial government is already applying AI across key sectors including education, healthcare, agriculture, and governance.
China’s rapid progress in the digital sector offers useful lessons for Pakistan, the chief minister added. She pointed to developments in digital technology in Guizhou as particularly impressive and said Pakistan would seek to expand cooperation with China in technology and digital fields.
High-Level Meetings Strengthen Bilateral Ties
Earlier during her visit, CM Punjab met He Zhongyou, the Communist Party secretary in Beijing. The two sides discussed matters of mutual interest and explored ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
Maryam Nawaz told Chinese officials that Punjab offers substantial investment opportunities in technology, digital economy, artificial intelligence, and agriculture. She added that the province is undergoing major changes in the agricultural sector and continues to serve as a major food-producing region for the country.
Urging Chinese investors to benefit from the opportunities available in Punjab, she called on them to contribute to the province’s technology and agricultural transformation. The visit underscores a strategic push to position Punjab as a gateway for Chinese tech investment in South Asia.
