Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has called on young government officers to treat public service as a responsibility rather than a mere job, warning that their decisions carry direct consequences for millions of citizens.
Addressing officers of the Provincial Management Service (PMS) Sindh in Lahore, the chief minister said the state had invested in their education, training and professional development, and that this investment carried an obligation to serve the country and its people.
State Investment Brings Responsibility
Maryam Nawaz said Pakistan had given the officers their identity, respect and opportunities for advancement. She added that she personally took pride in having received her education within the country.
The chief minister stressed that holding public office brings substantial responsibilities, and that running a government may appear simple from the outside but is in practice a demanding task.
Performance Over Procedure
Maryam Nawaz said her priority remains performance and tangible results, underlining the importance of decisions that benefit citizens and improve their quality of life.
She cautioned the young officers against falling back on conventional and convenient approaches to sidestep their duties. Merely marking attendance, signing documents or citing the negligence of others as an excuse for inaction, she said, could harm the country’s development.
Young Officers as Future Leaders
Describing the young officers as the future leadership of the country, the chief minister urged them to use their positions as a means of serving the public.
- Public service should be viewed as a duty, not simply employment.
- State-funded training creates an obligation to deliver for citizens.
- Performance and measurable results must guide official decisions.
- Routine paperwork and excuses for inaction undermine national progress.
