While the Miss France 2026 crown was awarded to Hinaupoko Devèze of Tahiti on Saturday night, the aftermath of the competition has revealed the disappointment of one favored contender who did not advance past the initial selection.
A Shocking Early Exit
Lola Lacheré, the 20-year-old student crowned Miss Nord-Pas-de-Calais 2025, was not among the twelve regional finalists chosen by the jury to continue in the live broadcast. This outcome was unexpected, as her region has historically produced numerous Miss France winners and she was considered a strong candidate. Some pre-show analyses, including one citing artificial intelligence, had given her high odds of victory.
The selection committee, which included members of the Miss France organization and last year’s winner Ève Gilles, did not advance her to the final stage held in Amiens and broadcast on TF1.
A Public Statement of Mixed Emotions
On Sunday, December 7th, Lacheré addressed her supporters and the result on social media. She expressed pride in representing her region and gratitude for the support she received throughout the experience.
“I gave the best of myself!” she wrote. “What a pride to have represented Nord-Pas-de-Calais!”
She also warmly congratulated the winner, Hinaupoko Devèze, calling her a “friend from this adventure” and promising continued support. However, she concluded her message by acknowledging her struggle to process the outcome.
“Today I remain in incomprehension… The evening was intense, grueling, full of emotions. I need to take a step back, to rest,” Lacheré stated.
Context of the Competition
The Miss France 2026 election followed its traditional format, hosted by Jean-Pierre Foucault. The victory of Miss Tahiti was celebrated by fellow contestants, former titleholders, and public figures in the hours following the broadcast.
Lacheré’s reaction highlights the intense emotional investment and high stakes for the thirty candidates who begin the process, only one of whom ultimately claims the national title.
