Amir Predicts India’s T20 World Cup Exit, Backs SA and WI

Amir Predicts India's T20 World Cup Exit, Backs SA and WI

In a bold prediction ahead of the T20 World Cup Super Eights, former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has stated he does not see the Indian cricket team qualifying for the semi-finals, citing persistent batting vulnerabilities as their primary hurdle.

Batting Collapses a Major Concern

Speaking on Geo News’ programme “Harna Mana Hai,” Amir, a member of Pakistan’s 2009 T20 World Cup-winning squad, pointed to India’s inconsistent batting performance. “Take a look at all their matches, except for the Pakistan fixture; their batting collapses,” the pacer remarked. He suggested that this frailty would be exacerbated under the heightened pressure of the Super Eights stage.

Amir’s Semi-Final Picks: South Africa and West Indies

Amir named South Africa and the West Indies as his picks to advance from the Super Eights. He praised both teams’ current form and balance. “I think that in the manner in which South Africa and the West Indies are playing, they can beat any team that comes in their way,” he said.

He elaborated on the West Indies’ strengths, highlighting a potent bowling attack featuring Gudakesh Motie, Akeal Hosein, Jason Holder, and Shamar Joseph, and power-hitters like Sherfane Rutherford and Rovman Powell who can “put pressure on any team.”

Regarding South Africa, Amir pointed to their comprehensive squad: “Well, their fast bowling: complete, spinners: complete, batting: in-form.”

Diverging Opinions Among Panellists

Amir’s prediction contrasted with those of other analysts on the programme. Veteran cricketer Rashid Latif forecast a Pakistan vs. India semi-final clash, while Ahmed Shehzad predicted that India and South Africa would progress to the final four.

The differing views set the stage for a highly contested Super Eights phase, with India’s campaign under particular scrutiny following Amir’s critique of their top-order stability.
