Muslim Nations Back Palestinian State Amid Gaza Crisis

Muslim Nations Back Palestinian State Amid Gaza Crisis

Diplomatic Push for Two-State Solution Intensifies

Pakistan and a coalition of Muslim-majority nations have forcefully reaffirmed their support for an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, framing the issue as indispensable for regional peace. The declaration came during the Fourth Consultative of Foreign Ministers from Pakistan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Turkiye in Cairo on Sunday. The ministers underscored that the Palestinian cause remains central to achieving a just and lasting peace in the Middle East, devoting particular attention to deteriorating humanitarian and political situation in Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem.

Meanwhile, the United Nations has warned that conditions are worsening rapidly across the occupied Palestinian territories. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has renewed his call for an end to the occupation and a credible path toward a two-state solution. The diplomatic maneuvering unfolds against a backdrop of relentless violence, with Palestinian health officials reporting that the death toll from Israeli fire in Gaza has surpassed 1,000 since a fragile ceasefire took effect last October.

2>Civilian Casualties and Military Operations Continue

Israeli strikes and gunfire killed at least nine people in Gaza on Saturday, including a child and a journalist, according to medical sources. An airstrike destroyed an apartment building in Gaza City’s Sabra, killing four Palestinians, among them two women and a child. In northern Beit Lahiya, Israeli forces shot and killed a woman, while a separate airstrike in Khan Younis left one dead and eight wounded. Later that day, an airstrike on the Bureij refugee camp killed three people, including Al Jazeera cameraman Ahmed Wishah. The network condemned the killing as a “heinous crime,” noting that Wishah’s brother, also a journalist with the outlet, was killed by Israeli forces approximately two months prior.

The Israeli military claimed it struck a “militant” in Gaza City and separately announced the elimination of two operatives from the military wings of Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad. The military alleged the men facilitated the transfer of over half a billion shekels to Hamas. The ongoing violence prompted China’s UN envoy to call on Israel to stop violating the ceasefire, while Pakistan demanded immediate and unhindered humanitarian to the besieged enclave.

UNICEF Demands Accountability and Diplomatic Clash Erupts

UNICEF has urged accountability for Israel’s killings of children as a dramatic confrontation unfolded at a United Nations hearing in New York. Israel’s ambassador, Danny Danon, engaged in a shouting match with the UN special representative for children and armed conflict, demanding her resignation over a report that blacklisted Israel for alleged abuses against children for the first time. Danon accused the official of bias, while the report itself warned that Israeli settler groups could be added to a global blacklist for violations against children. Secretary-General Guterres has voiced alarm at what he described as a “staggering” rise in violations against Palestinian children.

Regional Condemnation of Settler Violence

Eight Arab-Islamic states, including Pakistan, Egypt, Turkiye, Indonesia, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, issued a joint statement on Thursday strongly condemning escalating violence by Israeli settlers against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank. The ministers specifically denounced attacks on two mosques north of Ramallah, them as a blatant violation of the sanctity of religious sites and international law. They warned that such actions fuel instability and extremism, undermining global efforts to achieve peace. Pakistan’s UN envoy separately called for an immediate end to the blockade of Gaza, labeling it an instrument of collective punishment, and insisted that humanitarian aid must remain unconditional.
