Victims Aged 16 to 60 as Blaze Rips Through Three-Story Building
A devastating fire in Neuves-Maisons, southwest of Nancy, has claimed five lives, including a 16-year-old teenager, emergency services confirmed on Sunday, November 30, 2025. The death toll rose from an initial four after a seriously injured victim succumbed to their injuries.
Victim Details and Injuries
The deceased victims have been identified as:
- A 59-year-old man
- A 60-year-old woman
- A 20-year-old woman
- A 16-year-old teenager
- One additional victim who died from severe injuries
Another 21-year-old individual suffered minor injuries from smoke inhalation and received medical treatment.
Emergency Response and Fire Details
Firefighters were alerted to the blaze at approximately 3:15 AM on Sunday at a three-story building on Rue du Capitaine Caillon. The structure contained a ground-floor shop with residential areas above. Despite the intensity of the fire, it did not spread to neighboring buildings.
Approximately 70 firefighters with thirty vehicles responded to the emergency, bringing the fire under control “quite quickly” according to officials. Twenty gendarmes, including members of the research brigade and intervention platoon, also attended the scene along with three ambulances.
Community Support Measures
The local municipality announced it would open two rooms to support the community – one to accommodate affected families and another to host a medical-psychological emergency unit for residents traumatized by the tragedy.
The circumstances surrounding the fire’s origin remain under investigation as authorities work to determine what caused the deadly blaze in this community of 7,000 residents.
