Islamabad: National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has strongly reacted to a statement made by a judge of the Islamabad High Court regarding Parliament, labeling it as an “attack” on the institution. During a session of the National Assembly, the Speaker referred to media reports quoting a respected judge of the High Court who stated that Parliament, along with the executive and judiciary, has become “subservient.” Sadiq stated, “No one has the right to make statements against Parliament. It is our prerogative. If this is true, convey the message that it is unacceptable for Parliament.”
Against the backdrop of this statement, important remarks were made by Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani during the hearing of a case on Tuesday, where candidates appearing for the CSS 2024 exams had requested the Federal Public Service Commission to halt the next exam until the announcement of previous results. Justice Kayani remarked, “Life in Pakistan is a continuous struggle, and the pillars of the state are no longer present.” He further added, “The state is in disarray. Individuals over 45 years of age, including myself, are ineffective. Only the youth should take action for this country. I am not hopeless. It is the youth who will care for this country. The judiciary, Parliament, and the executive are all subservient.”
During the session, Sadiq also appealed to the leadership and members of the PTI to stop the “drama” of falsely accusing Parliament. He said, “The Parliament of 2018 was not fake, but according to them, the Parliaments of 2013 and 2024 are fake.” He further stated that such remarks from the opposition are unacceptable as they directly attack Parliament. “They only call Parliament fake when they are not in power.” He criticized PTI lawmakers who returned to Parliament and are receiving salaries after boycotting parliamentary activities.
