Rawalpindi: A young domestic worker has been hospitalized after allegedly being subjected to violence and mistreatment by her employers in Rawalpindi, Pakistan. The victim, identified as 12-year-old Iqra, was brought to the hospital in an unconscious state. Medical professionals confirmed signs of violence on her body, prompting Rawalpindi’s Chief of Police, Khalid Hamdani, to initiate an investigation.
The incident came to light when the distressed girl was transported from the area of Saghri Mal Scheme near the Rawalpindi’s Bani Police Station to the hospital, where her condition deteriorated. The police have taken the couple and the woman who brought the girl to the hospital into custody. A team from the child protection agency has also arrived at the hospital to ensure the well-being of the children involved.
According to initial reports, the incident occurred a few days ago, and the girl’s condition remains critical. Chief of Police Khalid Hamdani emphasized that any form of violence against children is intolerable. Legal action will be taken against the perpetrators once medical reports are received, holding them accountable for the harm inflicted on the innocent girl.
On the other hand, Sarah Ahmad, Chairperson of the Child Protection Committee, has expressed deep concern over the incident and ensured that the affected girl has been admitted to Holy Family Hospital for treatment. She revealed that the girl had been subjected to violence for approximately 12 days, evident from the visible signs of abuse on her body. Sarah Ahmad further stated that the domestic worker will be placed under protective custody and provided with all necessary assistance by the child protection agency.
