Spanish police have apprehended one of France’s most wanted fugitives, a man linked to a murder case in Montreal. The suspect, who had been on the run since October 10, 2024, was arrested in Catalonia after a months-long manhunt. The arrest followed a raid on his residence in Cabrils, a village near Barcelona, where authorities seized six firearms, drugs, stolen vehicles, and an extensive surveillance system.
The fugitive had been hiding in Spain since the fatal shooting of a 29-year-old man in a Montreal alley. The victim, known by the nickname “Turksh,” was a prominent influencer with a notorious reputation for involvement in vehicle smuggling. He was shot in the chest on October 10, 2024, in what authorities described as a targeted attack.
According to Spanish police, the suspect was among France’s most wanted criminals, with a European arrest warrant issued against him for charges including murder and money laundering. French investigators had traced his movements to Spain, prompting a collaborative effort with Spanish authorities to locate him.
The suspect had taken extensive precautions to evade capture, using stolen vehicles with fake license plates and rarely venturing outside. His home and garden were equipped with motion detectors and cameras, making the operation to apprehend him particularly challenging. After months of surveillance, Spanish police seized a rare opportunity to arrest him.
Following the arrest, French authorities requested a search of his residence, where they discovered three long firearms, three short firearms—including a Kalashnikov rifle—and bags of narcotics. The investigation into the Montreal murder revealed that the crime was likely the result of rivalry among criminals rather than gang-related conflict.
The suspect remains in Spain, where he will face legal proceedings. The arrest marks a significant breakthrough in a case that has drawn international attention and highlights the ongoing collaboration between European law enforcement agencies in tackling cross-border crime.
