The American rapper Sean “P. Diddy” Combs has been transferred from the federal correctional facility in Fort Dix, New Jersey, to Allenwood Low in neighbouring Pennsylvania, the Federal Bureau of Prisons confirmed to AFP on Friday, 16 October.
The move comes weeks after US media reported that the music mogul had been living lavishly behind bars, spending thousands of dollars a month to “transpose his high-end lifestyle into this low-security prison,” according to NBC News.
Alleged Privileges Behind Bars
According to those reports, the 56-year-old rapper managed to obtain Hennessy cognac, smuggled mobile phones and antidepressants while incarcerated. He is also said to have paid several fellow inmates generously to prepare his meals, clean his cell and give him massages.
The Bureau of Prisons has remained tight-lipped about the reasons for the transfer. “For privacy, safety and security reasons, we do not comment on the conditions of confinement of those in our custody, including the reasons for a transfer,” a spokesperson said.
Conflicting Accounts of an Altercation
TMZ reported that Combs, whose real name is Sean John Combs, had recently suffered a head injury in a fight with another inmate at Fort Dix and had to be taken out of the prison for medical treatment. The Bureau of Prisons denied the account, telling the Associated Press that the story “is false and did not happen.”
Conviction After a Blockbuster Trial
Combs was sentenced in 2025 following a high-profile trial that detailed the drug-fuelled “freak-off” sessions he organised, during which women — including his former girlfriend, the singer Casandra Ventura — were coerced into participating.
The jury acquitted him of the most serious charges, namely sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy, but convicted him on two counts related to transporting individuals across state lines for prostitution. Sean John Combs is due to be released from prison in March 2028.
