NEW YORK — Pakistan issued a forceful condemnation on Friday of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) for targeting civilian infrastructure in Sudan, while reaffirming its unwavering support for Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity during a high-level United Nations Security Council session.
Immediate Ceasefire and Aid Access Demanded
Speaking at the Security Council meeting on the deteriorating situation in Sudan, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Asim Iftikhar, demanded an immediate cessation of hostilities and called for the uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian assistance to millions of affected civilians.
Iftikhar characterized the deliberate attacks on schools, hospitals, markets, and places of worship as “highly condemnable,” underscoring the grave violations of international humanitarian law.
No Military Solution to the Conflict
The Pakistani envoy stressed that safeguarding Sudan’s national institutions and territorial integrity remains paramount. He delivered a stark message to the warring parties: there is no military solution to the conflict.
“Achieving lasting stability is a shared responsibility of the international community,” Iftikhar stated, urging coordinated diplomatic pressure to bring all sides to the negotiating table.
Pakistan’s Continued Commitment to Regional Peace
Iftikhar reiterated that Pakistan will continue to back international and regional initiatives designed to foster peace and stability in Sudan. The statement aligns with Islamabad’s broader diplomatic posture emphasizing multilateral solutions to African conflicts.
The Security Council session highlighted growing global alarm over Sudan’s humanitarian catastrophe, with millions displaced and essential services crippled by over a year of brutal infighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the RSF.
