ISLAMABAD — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar held a late-night telephone conversation with Ambassador Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency and a candidate for United Nations Secretary-General, to discuss the rapidly evolving regional situation, the Foreign Ministry said.
According to an official statement, the two sides agreed that implementation of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding remained the best course of action to defuse mounting tensions in the Middle East. Ambassador Grossi offered technical support should the need arise.
Pakistan Reaffirms Commitment to UN Charter
During the call, DPM Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s enduring commitment to advancing the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and to respecting international law and treaties.
He also underscored the crucial importance of the UN system in realizing the global peace and development agenda, according to the Foreign Office.
Good Wishes for UNSG Campaign
The deputy prime minister wished Ambassador Grossi well in his campaign for the office of UN Secretary-General.
The exchange comes amid heightened regional uncertainty, with both sides signalling that the Islamabad MoU offers a viable diplomatic framework for lowering tensions.
