Pakistan Leaders Call for Unity and Compassion on Eid ul Adha

Pakistan’s top civilian and military leadership observed Eid ul Adha with a unified call for national cohesion, compassion, and unwavering support for the underprivileged, framing the religious festival against a backdrop of regional instability and the enduring spirit of sacrifice.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, President Asif Ali Zardari, and Field Marshal Asim Munir each issued distinct messages that resonated with the core Islamic values of faith and selflessness, while also addressing contemporary geopolitical realities.

A Call to Embrace the Needy

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif centered his message on the timeless narrative of Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) and Hazrat Ismail (AS), emphasizing that the occasion embodies faith, sacrifice, and compassion. He explicitly urged the nation to bridge the gap between prosperity and poverty.

“We must remember the underprivileged and share the joys of Eid with those in need,” the prime minister stated, stressing the importance of strengthening unity, brotherhood, and service to humanity. He further extended Pakistan’s moral support to oppressed Muslims in Palestine and Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, offering prayers for peace and harmony.

Piety Over Power

President Asif Ali Zardari delivered a poignant reflection on the essence of the festival, describing it as a profound reminder of obedience to Allah, patience, and sincerity. He underscored that genuine success is not measured by wealth or power but by piety, service, and empathy.

Quoting the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), the president reinforced the message of social responsibility: “The most beloved of people to Allah is the one who is most beneficial to people,” and, “He is not a complete believer who eats his fill while his neighbour beside him goes hungry.” President Zardari declared that sacrifice remains incomplete without the inclusion of the deprived, orphans, widows, labourers, and the disabled. He concluded with a rallying cry for national unity, tolerance, dialogue, and the rule of law.

Armed Forces Honor Martyrs’ Legacy

In a separate statement, the military’s media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), conveyed greetings from Field Marshal Asim Munir, alongside the Air Chief and Naval Chief. The armed forces’ message was firmly rooted in national security and remembrance.

The ISPR stated that the forces prayed for lasting peace, prosperity, and national unity, while reiterating their solemn commitment to defending Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The statement described Eid ul Adha as a powerful symbol of sacrifice, faith, and unity, paying special tribute to the families of martyrs, asserting that their sacrifices have fortified the nation’s very foundations.
