NEW YORK — Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with Prime Minister Nawaf Salam of the Lebanese Republic on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, where the two leaders reviewed bilateral relations and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the longstanding and fraternal ties between Pakistan and Lebanon.
Regional Developments in Focus
During the meeting, the two prime ministers exchanged views on the developments in the Middle East and the wider region, with discussions centering on the pressing security challenges facing Lebanon and its neighbors.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s steadfast support for Lebanon’s sovereignty, political independence, unity and territorial integrity.
He called for an immediate cessation of hostilities, strict adherence to ceasefire arrangements, the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from occupied Lebanese territory and the full implementation of UN Security Council resolutions.
Strengthening Bilateral Cooperation
The two sides discussed ways to further enhance bilateral cooperation across a range of sectors, including:
