Pakistan Hits 10 Drone Launch Sites in Afghanistan After Airspace Violation

Pakistan Hits 10 Drone Launch Sites in Afghanistan After Airspace Violation

Pakistan carried out strikes against 10 drone launch and storage sites inside Afghanistan, a government minister said, after what Islamabad described as a clear violation of its sovereignty by unmanned aircraft infiltrating from Afghan soil.

According to the minister, the infiltration of drones on September 23 constituted a breach of Pakistan’s territorial integrity, and the country’s air defences successfully disabled all of the incoming drones before they could reach their targets.

Air Defences Neutralise Incoming Drones

Officials said the drone incursion was detected and intercepted by Pakistan’s air defence systems, which brought down every aircraft involved in the infiltration. No casualties or damage from the drones were reported.

The minister characterised the episode as a serious escalation and said Pakistan reserved the right to respond to violations of its airspace, which it did by targeting the sites from which the drones were launched and stored.

Regional Tensions Simmer

The strikes mark a sharp deterioration in relations along the Pakistan-Afghanistan frontier, a border region that has seen repeated friction over cross-border militancy and security incidents in recent years.

Islamabad has consistently urged Kabul to prevent its territory from being used to launch attacks against Pakistan, while Afghan authorities have at times rejected such claims. The latest exchange adds fresh strain to an already fragile relationship between the two neighbours.

What Happens Next

  • Pakistan has signalled it will continue to act against threats emanating from Afghan soil.
  • The strikes targeted specific launch and storage infrastructure rather than populated areas, according to officials.
  • Diplomatic channels between Islamabad and Kabul remain under pressure as both sides assess the fallout.

The development is being closely watched by regional capitals, given its potential to further destabilise an already volatile border region and complicate ongoing efforts to manage security along the frontier.
