Paris Sees First Snowfall of the Season, Coating City in White

Paris Wakes Up to First Snowfall of the Season, Blanketing Landmarks and Roads

Snowfall Begins Overnight, Disrupts Capital

Paris and the surrounding Île-de-France region experienced their first significant snowfall of the season overnight from Saturday to Sunday, with snow beginning around midnight in the capital. Cold temperatures allowed the snow to accumulate on roads and landmarks, creating picturesque scenes across the city.

Key Locations Affected

The snowfall impacted several notable locations:

  • The Parc des Princes stadium saw its pitch covered in snow shortly after the PSG vs Le Havre match concluded
  • The Stade de France in Saint-Denis was blanketed in white minutes after the France-Australia rugby match ended
  • The Bir-Hakeim bridge between Paris’s 15th and 16th arrondissements developed a light snow cover
  • Areas in Clichy, Hauts-de-Seine also experienced significant snowfall

Weather Conditions and Forecast

Meteo-France reported accumulation of 1-5 cm across the Paris region, with some areas potentially seeing 5-7 cm. The orange weather alert was lifted at 6 AM for most departments, though Seine-et-Marne remained under alert until 8 AM.

“Between 1 and 5 cm fell overnight across the Paris region,” stated Meteo-France. “Locally freezing drizzle followed in the early morning hours before a gradual warming from the west.”

Short-Lived Winter Episode

The snow event lasted through much of the night but is not expected to persist. Sunday is forecast to bring new oceanic rains and a noticeable warming trend, quickly melting the temporary white blanket that covered the French capital.

Road conditions became difficult in the capital as the snow accumulated, though the picturesque scenes provided Parisians with an early winter spectacle before the expected return to more typical November weather.
